Sweet and Sour Pickled Water Apple (Asinan Jambu Air)

My cousin gave me a lot of water apple that day. I decided to make something fresh and tasty food using this fruit. Hope you give this recipe a try!


  • 250 gram water apple
  • 4 red chilies
  • 1 birdeye chilies
  • 4 tbsp sugar or as desired
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 1 tbsp lime juice
  • 400 ml water


  1. Boil the chilies in some water for 10 minutes. Then, throw away the water.
  2. Grind the chilies and salt in a mortar until smooth.
  3. Put the water in a pan. Add the chilli paste, sugar, and lime juice.
  4. Simmer until everything is well combined for about 15 minutes.
  5. Turn off the heat.
  6. Let it cools down.
  7. Cut water apple vertically into 4 pieces.
  8. Add the water apple pieces in a pan. Mix it.
  9. Put in a container.
  10. Store in a fridge.
  11. Best eaten cold in the next day.
